Tenerife, Canary Islands

I have to start by saying we had no idea what to expect in Tenerife, Canary Islands. But from the start, we were pleasantly surprised. First, some interesting facts about Tenerife:
· Home to the third largest volcano, Mount Teide, which erupted last in 1909
· Most of the beaches are black sand and lava rock, the only white sand beach was manmade
· Tenerife belongs to Spain, and is the largest of the 7 Canary Islands
· Tenerife is considered one of the best places in the world to “stargaze” (particularly from the vantage point of the mountains) because it is far away from “light pollution”
· Mount Teide in Tenerife casts the biggest sea shadow
· Has vineyards everywhere that produce great wine!

We joined some of our friends from the cruise for a catamaran ride. You'd think we were tired of being on the water by now, but here we go.

These are actually long finned pilot whales, but they sure look like dolphins to me.  They were all around us, and were just floating on the water soaking up the sun.

Some of the beautiful homes and resorts along the beach.

Once we finished our catamaran cruise, we walked into the city to do some exploring and spent the afternoon and early evening touristing.  We were overnighting here so no rush to get back to the ship.

The 2nd day was very important - I got my nails done!  And then we wandered to a local market, a beautiful church, and got some more pictures of the local artwork and buildings.

We could come back to the Canary Islands, would love to see the other ones.  Future trip for us.  A day of cruising, and then we head to Gibraltar.
