Port Louis, Mauritius 5/18.19/24

 Port Louis, Mauritius

At the port, another welcoming committee for us.

After a little confusion with our tour guide, we got started with a drive around the town.  Queen Victoria memorial in the town square, and then up to the fort.

Very little expectations of this port, so pleasantly surprised at the size of the city, and the breathtaking scenery that we started with.

And of course, no tour is complete without a visit to the local markets.  Really wished we had more of these back home.

Isn't he beautiful?

The produce was incredible.  Mickey is itching to get back cooking.

From the local markets, we walked over and under to get to the more upscale part of the city, and an open-air mall with lots of shops and food stops

Once we finished at the mall - Mickey and I decided to go back later that evening, since we were overnighting in the port - we headed to the Sit See Woo Sagur botanical gardens and toured a good part of the garden, which covers about 37.5 acres.

A great lunch, and cocktails, of course.  Then back on the bus and rush rush rush to our next stop.

While all the stops were great, this was my favorite, and not just because it was a rum factory!  The Bleu Plon grounds were fabulous, the artwork around entertaining, and I could see hosting a great party here. A former sugar estate, the L'Aventure du Sucre was a great experience for the day.

The grounds - lots of sitting, picnic areas, and wonderful artwork adorns the walls and sculptures around the park area.

And of course, no visit would be complete without tasting the wares!  We tried 5 different rums and bought a few bottles to take back with us.

And of course, since we purchased some rum, someone had to carry it back to the ship...

From a very enjoyable stop, we headed to the Mont Choley Beach with Cap Macheureux Church for a relaxing end to our day, getting another beache stop.

We were all happy to see the ice cream truck - it was very hot and humid....great end to the day.

We headed back to the ship, quick shower, and back out to the port for dinner at the mall area.  It was a lovely night, considering how hot it was for the day.

Sunsets do not disappoint here

Our second day in Mauritius - we were on a private excursion with a group of 10, and we had a full day out on a catamaran.  The weather was perfect, and scenery spectacular.  A bit of a rocky start with some mix up on the pick-up time, but all worked out in the end.

Our group got to snorkel and enjoy the water before we had a great lunch on the cat before our return sail to our dock.

Scenery was spectacular as we were sailing back to our dock.

Our official captain, and some wanna be's!

Our crew of two - delightful young men.

Our day came to an end, and we headed back to the ship.  We had a few hours before gangway up, so we went back into town to do a bit of shopping - were looking for some specific gifts for the grands, but we couldn't find them. So, our last stop was a kiss for the dodo bird, and on to the ship.

A few days at sea, and on to Reunion Island.
