Port Elizabeth, South Africa 5/24/24

 Port Elizabeth, South Africa

Today, we embark on a mini Safari!  When the ship realigned its ports from the mideast to Africa, we debated on setting up a real safari in camps, overland, but opted to wait until we could do the safari we wanted, when we wanted it, and where we wanted it, instead of "jimmy rigging" one to fit this schedule change.  A lot of other passengers opted for that choice and said it was fabulous - an experience for a future trip for us!  And so, our mini safari for the day.

Early morning start to try to catch the animals while it was still cool - was a scorcher today.

After about an hour and a half drive, we got to the park, and had to wait for access, since our guides were directed to the wrong entrance, and it took a while to work it out....

Kudu

Red Hartebeast

Zebras

Warthogs - we caught them fighting - pretty cool to watch.

Water Buffalo - one of the big 5

Our driver was very careful to miss them!

The birds, while not a big 5, were colorful and plentiful.

This was the lunch that was served - just not to us.  By the time we got there, they had pretty much run out of food.  Not happy about that as we paid for it in our tour fee!

Elephants - another one of the big 5

This guy walked right by our tour bus..

Snails and turtles - biggest snail we have ever seen.  It was huge..

Hyena in there...

These pictures are from some of our fellow cruisers who went to Addo and then a private preserve where they saw the giraffe's ad ostriches.  We didn't have any giraffes at our park.  But they are cool so had to share....

Another great day, and another shot at a mini safari - we definitely want to do one sometime in the future...

A few days at sea, and then Mossel Bay, South Africa.
