Brisbane Australia
While still recovering from the record-breaking floods of just over a year ago, Brisbane offers a variety of things to see and do. Located on the Brisbane River, one favorite activity is a scenic river cruise which we had originally planned to do. After a call to our granddaughter, Autumn, we quickly changed plans. Her first question when we told her we were in Australia - are you going to see koalas? So off to the Lone Pine Sanctuary it was - not only did we get to see koalas, (the koalas are very cute...we just missed the opportunity to hold one - last ticket sold right in front of us...boo hoo), we fed and petted kangaroos, saw wildlife galore (including our Florida Gators cousin, the crocodile), watched a working sheep dog expedition, and still got our river cruise. Some of the houses along the river can rival our own Port Royal neighborhood. Beautiful city, interesting bridges. The floods in 2022 were quite devastating and you can still see the recovery work going on, just like Fort Myers...You can find unique eateries and shops at Eat Street, the market area made of recycled shipping containers. A combination of beautiful plants and views are found at Mount Coot-tha Botanic Gardens. Very relaxing day, but a bit of a downpour as we were coming off the river cruise.
We spend our next day at sea as we head for our Great Barrier Reef ports.
View from our river cruiseOn to Lone Pine Sanctuary to see the Koalas and Kangaroos and all the other animals...
